Ayurveda and Soft Drinks

I used to think drinking diet coke was healthy.

Well caffeine free actually.

This is how Ayurveda changed everything.

I first heard about Ayurveda in the early 2000’s, but I really got to know Ayurveda once arrived in India in 2009. She greeted me at a time when I was certain conventional western thought regarding health and wellbeing was lacking. I’d thrown my heart open and thus began my conscious education of ‘Life Science’.

Previous to that I was healthy enough. However I’d be working and travelling excessively. I existed on sometimes only 4 hours of sleep per night and my stomach often felt unsettled as did my mind. I’d been leveraging a modern paradigm of ‘go-getting’, which honestly lacked meaning and left me feeling empty.

Rewind - During the the years I was in martial arts training to enter weight divisions; calories (to my mind at the time) were everything. Spoiler alert, turns out I was wrong.

As a young athlete I'd visit nutritionists who'd show me how to go ‘low fat’, count calories and balance carbs with protein. Soft drinks with the typical amount of 10 teaspoons of sugar inside were definitely off the menu.

However, Diet coke was condoned as a good option to momentarily curve hunger whist not contributing kilojoules. So I’d take the caffeine-free option to ensure ‘purity’ in my energy.

& I always felt so hungry.

I had no idea that the chemical sweeteners in soft drinks (called aspartame) were making me crave and slowly vanquishing the healthy fire in my belly.

I’d soon come to know that nature gives us first and foremost what we need to nourish and that what’s made in a lab is toxic for our bodies.

I lacked true nourishment in both my body and mind and by the initiation of my first Yoga Teacher Training in 2002, I’d began searching.

Yoga propelled me into the journey of my souls desire to move through life with meaning.

It was a natural progression that her sister science Ayurveda, intrigued me. The treatments, oils, herbs, potions, recipes and rituals bubbled out from an ancient language that resonated in my DNA.

It felt the opposite of a well marketed soft-drink culture, it felt intrinsically healthy.

Finally, I felt as though when it came to my body, I could understand how she needed to be nourished and I actually Did have a say.

Your body is Your temple.

Ayurveda showed up as an ancient science of true healing, mirrored by nature and reflected right into the heart.

The first practice is always self-love and for that I travelled to several countries, immersed in traditional cultures and learned their rituals.

Honestly, it tended towards a mixture of cognitive and experimental at the start. Yet over time I began to heal not only an imbalanced belly (for good) also the very yearnings of my heart and mind.

I fell in love with these sciences which clearly loved me back.

The rest is history, including time studying one-to-one with Master teachers including Dr Vasant Lad globally.

I taught my first public workshop on the subject upon retuning from India in 2009 and the most recent one 4 years ago.

This season I am returning to share the essence of these powerful healing technologies with you. It's time.

Join us in-person Ayurveda and Yoga for Autumn Harmony.

The knowledge of Ayurveda and Yoga has supported me throughout many unsteady moments in life and you need to have that knowledge too.

The central premise of Ayurveda is like attracts like and opposites bring balance.

I embraced this premise so deeply that I began learning about myself in a whole new way. A way that bought harmony to the modern demands that we all face daily.

Join me Ayurveda and Yoga for Autumn Harmony.
